Chris Webber was naturally a great player along with lots of determination and hard work on his
part. He figured out his great talent in one of his eighth grade basketball games scoring
64 points 15 of them being dunks. The future star wouldn't stop their. When high school came
around the basketball star wanted to play for Southwestern High School with future "fab five" and
Michigan teammate Jalen Rose
who was also showing his abilitly with a basketball.
Even though Chris wasn't able to play with Jalen at Southwestern it didn't stop him from
leading his private school Detroit County Day High to three State Championships. As his
dad had said "He knew I was gonna be ok in basketball." His dad was right but just a little
Chris wasn't okay he was fantastic, and on his way to the NBA. As a senior in high school Chris averaged a
killing in the statistics 28 points a game and 13 rebounds. Because of Chris's great
ability to score and rebound Chris earned himself these honors Michigan's Mr. Basketball and
1990-91 consensus National High School Player of the Year honors. After being named these
great honors he was able to go to about any college or university he desired, he chose
Michigan because it was close to his family and he wouldn't have to go far from his home.
Chris Webber was a dominating in force in the fab five. He had it all, talent, speed, strength
and a jump shot that will get you from anywhere. The fab five sophomore was a no doubt choice
in the 1993 NBA draft. After leading his heavy preseason favorite Michigan Wolverines to the 1991
NCAA Championship game, playing Duke in the Superdome for the prized Championship trophy and bragging rights
for that year.
