Soon high school came and so did the competition. Of course this petty challenge was no problem for the potensis star. The competition wasn't the problem the problem was reading all the letters he received from colleges wanting him to play basketball for them.

His senior year Darius Miles lead his team to third place in the state tournament. His big points also allowed him to take part in the 2000 All American's Game where he scored 17 points (8-14 FG) to push the West to a 146-120 victory over the East. Darius was also named Illinois Class AA Mr.Basketball.

After his senior year of high school basketball Darius was looking at the next level to improve his game, college. It wasn't hard for Darius to find a school that wanted him considering he was getting scholarship letters from tons of schools waiting and hoping for him to accept. After lots of thought Darius decided on St. John's but was not academically eligable and was forced to either choose a different college to play for or jump straight to the NBA. He decided to jump right into the NBA. Not realizing the true fight he would have to face in the NBA, stars like 7 footer Tim Duncan or a 300 pound Shaq. He still wanted to maintain his career so instead of trying for another college school he enter the 2000 NBA draft.

The Los Angeles Clippers agreed with his decision of joining the NBA picking him first round, 3rd overall. Darius Miles was now a Clipper ready to show all the none believers he was here to stay. Darius played two of his first NBA years with the Los Angeles Clippers after he was traded on July 29, 2002 to the Cleveland Cavaliers along with Harold Jamison for Andre Miller and Bryant Stith.
