Became the second player in Nets franchise history to be selected as a Number One pick (Derrick Coleman, 1990)...Named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team...Finished the season ranked second among NBA rookies in scoring and rebounding, and leading all rookies in blocks per game and steals per game (1.18)...Had 10 double-doubles on the season...Named NBA Rookie of the Month for November and Co-Rookie of the Month for March...Suffered a fractured right fibula in the third quarter vs. Boston on 3/22/01, ending his season with 12 games remaining...Over his last 25 games, averaged 14.1 ppg and 7.8 rpg while shooting 47.3% from the field and 77.3% from the line...Reached the 20 point scoring mark in eight games this season. COLLEGE:
A four-year member of the Cincinnati Bearcats, Martin was named consensus National Player of the Year as senior, earning the Associated Press, Wooden, Naismith, Robertson, NABC and US Basketball Writers Association awards. He was also consensus First Team All America and a unanimous choice for Conference USA Player of the Year. Martin earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year for his third consecutive season. Suffered a fractured fibula on March 9, 2000 in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament, missing the entire NCAA Tournament. Started in 31 games for the Bearcats his senior year, averaging 18.9 ppg, 9.7 rpg and 3.45 bpg. Ranked 13th in the nation in rebounding and eighth in the nation in blocks.
