- Bryant scored 24 points, but remained on the bench during the final 12 minutes while Vujacic scored 19 of his career-high 22
points to power the Los Angeles Lakers to a 127-99 rout of the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night. The victory was completed just
hours after coach Phil Jackson received a two-year contract extension.
"I was having fun, but it's not just because of the 22 points I scored. It's my teammates. They gave me open looks and believed
in me,'' said Vujacic, who shot 6-for-14 in 21 minutes of action. "Denver played a lot of zone, so coach asked me to move from
corner to corner to overload the side, and we did a great job sharing the basketball. The way we swing the ball around, it was
just unbelievable.''
Andrew Bynum had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Luke Walton added a career-high 14 points in 27 minutes. Los Angeles' much-improved
second unit played so spectacularly and efficiently down the stretch that Bryant was reduced to spectator status - despite the fact
that Los Angeles led by only six points after three. The Lakers' reserves outscored their Denver counterparts 63-29.
"The young fellas came in and took care of business,'' Bryant said. "We have young players who have a lot of heart and who care. And when
you have that combination, you have a lot of potential. In the past, I've always been the only guy in the gym really working hard. But now
I've got guys in there with me pushing themselves every single day, and that makes a big difference.'' - NBA.com
Kobe Bryant Achieves A Supersonic Win For Lakers!
November 28, 2007
- Kobe Bryant brought some order to another sloppy finish by the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant scored six of his 35 points
in the final 3:51 and the Lakers overcame three turnovers in the final 1 1-2 minutes to beat Seattle 106-99 Tuesday night,
snapping a three-game skid and sending the SuperSonics to their fifth straight loss.
Rookie Kevin Durant had 25 points for Seattle, 12 of them in the final 6:05. But it wasn't enough to overcome a 15-point
fourth-quarter deficit. "They made it closer than I thought they were going to,'' Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "I didn't like
the way we finished up. We had a 15-point lead, then we were wandering around defensively and started doing some things I didn't
like. It's the sign of a young team that's still unbridled and still undisciplined. I'm not happy with that game, but it was a win.''
The Lakers had a 77-67 lead with about 2 1-2 minutes left in the third when Seattle's Nick Collison drove to the basket and sustained
a cut below the right eye as Bryant took a swipe at the ball. Collison wasn't able to take the free throws -- so under NBA rules, he
was ineligible to play the rest of the game and Jackson was allowed to select any one of the Sonics to replace Collison at the line.
"I've never liked the rule,'' Jackson said. "Obviously we've had a number of guys over the years that have had to shoot foul shots and
come out and get taped or glued for a cut, like a boxer. But when you lose a ballplayer like that, it hurts you a lot.''
Kobe Bryant Misses The Net On A Clutch Free-Throw!
November 26, 2007
- Kidd had 15 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds leading the Nets to a 102-100 victory over the Lakers and Kobe Bryant,
who had 31 points. During New Jersey's recent six-game losing streak, Kidd was quoted in New York papers as saying that the
Nets have a habit of "letting go of the rope,'' and playing with a "glass jaw.'' Apparently, his teammates got the message.
They've won three straight.
Bryant made 15 straight free throws before missing a clutch foul shot with 6.1 seconds to go. The two-time defending NBA scoring
champ started out 3-for-16 from the field, going the entire second and third quarters without a basket. His next one came on a
layup with 6:13 to play. But during his drought, New Jersey had turned a 14-point deficit into an 85-72 lead with a 16-3 run.
"They were on Kobe really well and they made it difficult for him,'' Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "I thought that most of his
shots were challenged. They stayed down on his pump fakes and he didn't get any rhythm in his shots.'' Both teams blew double-digit
leads. Carter triggered the Nets' pivotal rally, hitting a 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left in the third quarter to tie it 72-all. - NBA.com
Kobe Bryant Is Prey For Schwarzenegger!
November 24, 2007
- Kobe Bryant scored 28 points for Los Angeles, which got no help from having Schwarzenegger in the crowd with his wife,
Maria Shriver. Instead, the Celtics fired up the crowd for the renewal of the rivalry by putting a muscle-bound clip of
Schwarzenegger's movie "Predator'' on the scoreboard.
Kevin Garnett scored 21 points with 11 rebounds, and Kendrick Perkins had 21 and nine for Boston, which improved to 10-1
overall and 7-0 at home. Paul Pierce had 20 points and nine assists, Allen scored 18 points and Rajon Rondo had 10 assists
for the Celtics.
All the indications of the 1980s were there: The Celtics and Lakers on the parquet, a full house chanting "Beat L.A.!'' and
even a clip of an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie on the scoreboard. The real Schwarzenegger was sitting courtside on Friday night
watching Boston and Los Angeles renew their rivalry - one of the perks of being governor of California. And the NBA's fiercest
foes from the '80s showed that they have a chance for a pretty good second act, too. - NBA.com
Kobe Bryant Gets Bucked And Left Seeing Redd!
November 22, 2007
- Redd said going head-to-head with Kobe Bryant during USA Basketball practices over the summer made him a better player, and Redd proved it in the Milwaukee Bucks' 110-103
victory over Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
"In order to be one of the premier guards in this league, you've got to be able to defend,'' Redd said. "He's done it for
many years, and I'm trying to do the same thing now.'' Bryant joked that maybe he shared too many helpful hints. "I think I worked with him a little too much on those defensive
drills in the summer time,'' Bryant said.
Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Redd got Bryant "a little distracted'' on the floor. Bryant also was called for a technical foul in the third quarter. "He didn't play as much of
a team game as I'd like to have seen him play,'' Jackson said of Bryant. "It was a good head (to) head battle for the two players and it came out pretty even.'' Redd said he gave
Bryant a taste of his own medicine. - NBA.com
Kobe Bryant Sets The Pace For O'Neal And The Pacers!
November 21, 2007
- When the Los Angeles Lakers delivered the knockout blow to the Indiana Pacers, Kobe Bryant was reclining on the sideline. The Lakers scored the first 12 points of the
fourth quarter with Bryant resting and went on to a 134-114 win.
Bryant scored 32 points and Jordan Farmar had a career-high 18 points for short-handed Los Angeles, which has won four straight. Andrew Bynum added 17 points and 10 rebounds
in his first start as the Lakers rolled to the highest point total in the league this year. Bryant, normally the catalyst during such runs of Lakers dominance, liked what he
saw in the fourth.
"It feels great,'' he said. "Everybody's contributing. When we have games like tonight, particularly when we're on the road, that's when everybody gains confidence and really starts
finding their groove.'' Bynum got the best of his matchup with Indiana forward Jermaine O'Neal. He made all six of his shots and had four blocks. In one sequence in the fourth quarter,
he blocked back-to-back attempts by O'Neal. - NBA.com
Kobe Bryant Takes Down Chicago And That's No Bull!
November 18, 2007
- Kobe Bryant scored 10 of his 18 points in the third quarter, five Los Angeles reserves finished in double figures and the Lakers beat the
Chicago Bulls 106-78 on Sunday night for their third straight victory. Los Angeles blew the game open by scoring 18 straight points to finish
the third quarter and start the fourth for an 81-60 lead with 9:45 remaining.
The Bulls weren't closer than 15 points after that, and wound up losing by their biggest margin ever to the Lakers. The previous record margin was 27 points in 1968.
Andrew Bynum had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers; Jordan Farmar added 14 points and a career-high eight assists; Chris Mihm and Vladimir Radmanovic scored
11 points each and Luke Walton added 10.
Bryant, who scored eight points in the first half, had nine during a 15-2 spurt to start the third quarter, giving the Lakers a 60-48 lead and putting them ahead to stay.
The Bulls drew within three points before Los Angeles went on its game-clinching run. - NBA.com
Kobe Bryant And Lakers Get Spurred!
November 14, 2007
- Not only did Bruce Bowen successfully guard Kobe Bryant, he even outscored him. Bowen went 6-of-6 from 3-point range, sinking them from his
favorite spot in the corner, and the San Antonio Spurs cruised to a 107-92 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
Bryant led the Lakers with 18 points, well below the 30.4 he was averaging before the game. Jordan Farmar added 16 and Lamar Odom had 12.
"They knocked down a bunch of 3s on us," Bryant said. "We can learn from this game in terms of how they execute and how they space the floor."
"They're a defensive team first," Bryant said. "That's what they hang their hats on. That's what wins championships." "The way they played us defensively took
away a lot of passing angles that we normally make," Bryant said. "It forced us to try and kind of lob the ball over the top and make skip passes that we usually
don't have to do." - Yahoo! Sports
Kobe Bryant Cages The Minnesota Timberwolves!
November 12, 2007
- Kobe Bryant scored 30 points and Lamar Odom had 18 points and 10 rebounds in his season debut Friday night to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a
107-93 victory over the winless Minnesota Timberwolves.
Bryant had 14 points by halftime and the Lakers led 56-50. After scoring 12 in the first quarter, Bryant took only two shots in the second and scored
two points, both from the free throw line.
Bryant, who seems to be looking to pass more this season, made a couple of fine lobs that Turiaf and Bynum had only to tip in. Bryant was on the receiving end of
another, a pass just beneath the rim that Bryant, breaking across under the basket, redirected into the hoop with a flick of his left hand.
